                                            A Mountain Tale

A Mountain Tale
The cabin was renovated in 1997 to a high standard,
hand made interior, well equipped.
Coggjoined shed with toilet. Located 1200 meter above sea level in
Hardangervidda National Park.
The cabin is situated in picturesque surroundings,
on the plateau above the waterfall.
The route, is marked most of the way.
3 hr walk to Valldalen / Middalsbu,
3 hr to Litlos and 4 hr to Hellevassbu. With changing scenery,
also great opportunities for fishing. Grouse, and reindeer hunting.
Great biological species in abundance due to limy soil.
Panoramic view from the location.

Hardangervidda is unique in so many ways, even on an international scale.
It is Europe's largest mountain plateau, consisting of 10.000 km2
of absolutely fascinating scenery,
and the home of thousands of wild reindeer - the largest flock in Europe.
3.400 km2 of the plateau's total area have been declared a
National Park-Norway's largest.
Hardangervidda is also the home of several bird and animal
species which have almost become
extinct. The artic flora and fauna on the plateau is most varied and interesting,
as Hardangervidda is the only place in the world where species belonging
in a western climate and those thriving in an eastern, inland climate can
be found in the same area.
The landscape on Hardangervidda is also very varied.
On the western side it is wild and dramatic with deep and narrow valleys
and majestic waterfalls and glaciers, whilst the eastern landscape
is more gentle. The geological formations on the plateau are a
result of millions of years of Hardangervidda history. Mankind
has survived and hunted on Hardangervidda since the Stone Age,
and even today the good hunting, fishing and wide pastures for
livestock are of great importance to the mountain villagers.
Throughout the years the locals have developed quite a tradition in
taking good care of visiting hikers. The area is seamed with trails for
all stages of proficiency, and along them lodges and cabins for overnight
use have been built at strategic intervals.
Hardangervidda is excellent for hikes for the whole family,
as children have no problems at all in coping.
